Cuts and closures to library services have led to an explosion of local and national campaigning groups all fighting to "Save our Libraries". But what is the relationship between librarians and campaigners?
Not all friends of libraries are friends of librarians! Library managers are squeezed between the demands of councils to provide an efficient library service within available budgets and the anger of communities at any suggestion of cuts.
The SINTO executive briefing Library Campaigns - are we all inside the tent? will tackle this issue head on. It is aimed at librarians and campaigners with an interest in working together.
Contributors will include:
Tim Coates - controversial advocate for improvements in library services
Alan Gibbons - author and founder of the Campaign for the Book
Annie Mauger - Chief Executive of CILIP
Lauren Smith - spokesperson for Voices for the Library and Save Doncaster Libraries
Friday 25th February 2011. 2pm. Sheffield Hallam University
