Call for Industry Day Speakers at ECIR 2019
===========================================
Next year's European Conference on Information Retrieval (ECIR: http://www.ecir2019.org/) will again include an Industry Day, following very successful events at ECIR in recent years. The Industry Day will be held on Thursday 18th April 2019, immediately after the regular conference program. In addition to a number of invited talks we are also calling for proposals as we do not want to miss any hot topics that should be discussed! We would be particularly delighted to hear from local companies and start-ups in the broader area of search and retrieval.
The Industry Day's objectives are three-fold. The first objective is to present the state of the art in search and search-related areas, delivered as keynote talks by influential technical leaders from the search industry. The second objective of the Industry Day is the presentation of interesting, novel and innovative ideas related to information retrieval. Finally, we are looking forward to a highly interactive discussion involving both industry and academia. As in recent years, we expect a good proportion of our attendees to be talented young IR researchers hungry to find out whether they should go into industry or aim at a career in academia. It's up to you to help shape the argument!
Speakers confirmed so far include:
Omar Zaidan (Microsoft)
Francisco Borges (Salesforce)
Jussi Karlgren (Gavagai)
Industry authors are invited to prepare proposals for presenting interesting, novel and innovative IR ideas, and submit these by email to the Industry Day chair. The proposal should contain:
Short company portrait (~100 words)
Short CV of the presenter(s) (~100 words)
Title and abstract of the presentation (~500 words)
When submitting a proposal, please bear in mind the following:
* Ensure the presentation is relevant to the ECIR audience
* Try to highlight interesting R&D challenges in the work you present
* Please do not present a sales pitch
