The Faculty of Applied Language Studies of University College Ghent is
seeking to appoint a postdoctoral research assistant with expertise in
German (100%)

Position GTT E 087
Postdoctoral research assistant in the subject area German - 100% of a
full-time position

Admission criteria
&#8226;	PhD level qualification in the domain of German language studies,
with a preference for applied language studies;
&#8226;	Compliance with the provisions of Article 89 of University
Colleges Decree.

Description of duties
The postdoctoral research assistant has a threefold task, namely in
education, research and the provision of services.

Education:
The postdoctoral research assistant will give lectures in, inter alia,
multilingual communication (German), and translation and interpreting
exercises from Dutch into German.  The precise course units will be
assigned in consultation with the section, having taken into consideration
the successful applicant&#8217;s expertise.  The postdoctoral research
assistant will be required to supervise bachelor and master dissertations.

Research:
The postdoctoral research assistant will help take initiatives in the
field of scientific research of German, more specifically within the
faculty&#8217;s research area of &#8216;multilingual communication&#8217;.
 The emphasis is on communication within organisations from a multilingual
and/or inter-cultural point of view.
The postdoctoral research assistant will valorise research results, not
least by publishing own research results and by setting up and supervising
research projects.

Provision of services:
The postdoctoral research assistant will take active part in the
day-to-day running of the faculty and the German section, as well as the
faculty&#8217;s provision of services to third parties, both at scientific
and community level.

Profile description
&#8226;	The applicant has an excellent command of the German language and
sound basic knowledge of Dutch, both in writing and spoken.
&#8226;	The applicant has a wide interest in applied languages,
particularly communication in, and (spoken/written) translation into,
German.
&#8226;	The applicant has a strong bias towards research and can document
the same with scientific publications.  He/she has clear views about the
faculty&#8217;s research area of &#8216;multilingual communication&#8217;.
 By way of documentation, the applicant will enclose a detailed proposal
for a research project in which views, short-term objectives (3 years) and
long-term outlines are explained and in which he/she explains in what way
the proposed research can be integrated into the course (proposal either
in Dutch or German, four A4 pages maximum).
&#8226;	The applicant has the necessary didactic competences and has
experience of teaching German in higher education. He/she is interested,
and experienced, in innovative teaching strategies, and is familiar with
ICT tools and electronic learning environments.
&#8226;	The applicant is able to organise his/her tasks efficiently and
has excellent social and communication skills.  In addition, he/she has
the necessary flexibility to work well in a team.

The selection committee will ask the successful applicants to carry out a
written assignment (translate a short text from Dutch into German) and
give a trial lesson.

Appointment
Temporary statutory appointment, filling a vacant position, starting not
before 15 September 2012, for a three-year period.

Salary scale
509
In accordance with Article 140 of the University Colleges Decree,
alongside length of service in the public sector, a maximum of 10 years in
the private sector may also be taken into consideration.  This will be
awarded on the basis of employment certificates and following the
examination of the dossier.

this way will be submitted to the selection committee.
