I appreciate that you have been sent a lot of requests over the past weeks regarding opportunities to volunteer with the Science Council, but as you know the Board is looking to appoint a new Chair of the Board in time for the AGM in September. I would appreciate it if you would circulate the below information and attached role description among your networks regarding the vacancy for Chair of the Board.
*The Science Council*
The Science Council is a charity and membership organisation established under Royal Charter in October 2003 for professional bodies and learned societies across the science disciplines. Its purpose, as defined in its Royal Charter, is to promote the advancement and dissemination of knowledge of and education in science, pure and applied, for public benefit. It sets the standards for professional registration for practising scientists and science technicians, independent of scientific discipline. Professional bodies within the membership are licensed to award their members the following designations who meet these standards: Chartered Scientist, Chartered Science Teacher, Registered Scientist and Registered Science Technician.
Following the resignation of the Chair in January this year, the Board is seeking to appoint a new *Chair* to lead the Science Council through the next stage of growth and development. The ideal candidate will provide leadership of the Board and working with Member Bodies and other partners to ensure that the Science Council delivers public benefit and its charitable objectives. The Board is currently seeking to appoint an interim General Manager.
