We are very excited to announce to our Friends the first HCA NADFAS Grant
The Heritage Crafts Association (HCA) and the National Association of Decorative and Fine Art Societies (NADFAS) are delighted to be working in partnership for the first time to offer:
The HCA NADFAS Grant 2012: Support for an Apprentice or Trainee
As you know, one of HCA’s key aims is to ensure that heritage crafts skills of the highest standard are passed from one generation to the next. Support of our national heritage has been one of the cornerstones of NADFAS since its inception in 1968. Therefore, the two organisations have decided to work together to offer a new branch of support to the heritage crafts sector.
The grant, which is open now for applications, specifically supports traditional crafts that contribute to our living heritage e.g. basketry, weaving, wood working, shoe making, metal working and so on. The scheme primarily looks to help apprentices, as there is currently little support in this area for craftspeople. However NADFAS and HCA are well aware that apprenticeships are not the only route to learn a craft skill and other training routes are included.
The Grant:
An apprentice or trainee can apply for a grant to assist their training in heritage crafts, for any amount up to £5,000. The grant can cover or contribute towards:
• the purchase of specialist tools or materials
• the cost to attend a specialist training course
• payment to a craftsperson for training
• the purchase of relevant books or study materials
• training related travel expenses
The Applicants:
HCA and NADFAS are looking to support someone who is
• based in the UK
• undertaking their training in the UK
• any age over 16
• undertaking training in heritage crafts, particularly crafts that are at risk of dying out
• planning to become a professional craftsperson
HCA and NADFAS will announce the winner of this substantial new award for heritage crafts in July 2012. In the meantime, the deadline for applications is FRIDAY 15 JUNE 2012. Please help us by spreading the word - do you know someone that is eligible to apply?
