Colleagues will be interested to know that I had two helpful and interesting responses to this posting, one from Perth College, which has raised more than £12m for capital campaigns: time and again the Scots do interesting things which the rest of us can learn from (not that I’m biased!) - follow the link to the ‘Development Trust’ on the college’s home page). The other was Chetham’s School, a specialist music school in Manchester, so quite different in some ways, but there’s lots of interesting detail on their website about their campaign, and many opportunities for supporters to donate, from naming rooms to buying bricks.

Hi all,

We are in the early stages of what I hope will be a major capital campaign - if we get a thumbs-up from the feasibility study we intend to commission - aiming to raise £5m for a new specialist centre at one of our campuses. The fundraising consultant we briefed the other day wondered whether we know of any similar campaign by an FE college. We don’t – but would be very pleased to be wrong! Does anyone else know any better? It would be particularly useful to know how others have made the case that we’re fundraising despite getting a good income from the Government.
