Dear colleagues,

Because of the unexpectedly high demand for places at the first international conference of the LCEDN on 4-5th April, 2012, there are now unfortunately only a handful of spaces left - please could those of you who contacted us off-list to express an interest therefore register as soon as possible!

As a reminder, the theme of the conference is ‘Low Carbon Energy for Development: Past Experiences and Future Challenges’ and thanks to support from the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) and the EPSRC we are privileged to be hosting a range of international speakers from across Asia, Africa and Latin America in the specific fields of solar power and bio-energy around which this conference is based.

Confirmed Speakers Include:

• Md Ashraful Islam, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology
• Monjur Mourshed, School of Civil and Buildings Engineering, Loughborough University
• Ivan Azurdia Bravo, Rijatzul Q'ij (Semilla de Sol), Guatemala.

To attend the conference, please go to the LCEDN website (http://www.lcedn.com/) as soon as possible and follow the links which will enable you to register online either for the whole event or as a day delegate on either the 4th or 5th April. This conference is the first of three planned for this year so please register your interest in joining the LCEDN (which is free) even if you are unable to secure a place.

The conference (and the network) is directed at any academics/practitioners in the UK who are involved in low carbon transitions and energy for development – we are specifically interested in bridging the gap between technologists, engineers and the social sciences and welcome interest from any discipline so long only as they have an interest in energy and development; this could for instance include gender, legal/ policy, solar, bio-energy, sociology, anthropology (not an exclusive list). There is a membership button on the home page which will allow you to register your interest in the LCEDN and become a member.
