Hi
My name is Mike Ryan. I work for Buckinghamshire County Council's Libraries
and Heritage. I have a background in teaching (secondary sector) and
librarianship (particularly children's work.) I will shortly be taking lead
responsibility for developing Buckinghamshire Library Service's role as a
learning organisation (for all age groups.) I am currently working with our
Continuing Education service to run Internet training in libraries for
retired people, for example. At a time when the People's Network is being
rapidly rolled out through public libraries this is a very fruitful time to
be knocking down some cultural barriers and forging very real partnerships.
The national Bookstart initiative, which sees libraries working with health
care trusts to promote books and reading with parents of babies, is a good
example of the way forward.
Particular themes that I would like to see the >list/seminars/conferences
take up include learning through public libraries
>(People's Network); joint working between libraries, museums, archives
>services; collaboration with HE/FE sectors; and educational content
creation >for Library/Museum Websites. I also have a strong interest in
work with children and their families.
I very much look forward to hearing more from colleagues and meeting up with
you at some point.
Mike Ryan
