For any HEIs that have an in house team of support workers for in class support I’d be grateful if you could suggest any practices that work for you in these 2 cases
1. A support worker is acting as a reader/scribe in an exam . The student they are supporting becomes very frustrated and starts shouting and swearing (not aimed at the support worker) about the tutor who set the exam. The support worker is feeling uncomfortable in the environment but does not feel threatened physically. What do you advise the Support Worker to do- stay or go? The student and Support Worker are in their own room and an invigilator looks in every few minutes as they have a number of rooms with individual students in to cover.
2. The timetable is changing at Worcester to give a greater number of smaller teaching sessions for a module rather than one large 4 hour block per week. Do other HEIs offer a minimum (e.g. 2 hours) rate to Support Workers? Or does it depend on how many sessions the Support Worker has in a day and the gap between them ?
