Dear all,
On Monday's informal call [13], we agreed to use Github for editing, and
perhaps for publishing, the Schema.org mappings.
After the call, Jon very patiently walked me through the process of turning
the DCMI Github account [1] into an "organizational" account [2]; creating
a fork of the Schema.org alignments under discussion [3], which we renamed
https://github.com/dcmi/schema.org. Thank you, Jon!
We agreed on Monday's call to use Github to track issues [5], and Jon has
already posted an issue -- that there needs to be a better way of displaying
the triples (he points to a more blog-like "mapping tool" interface at [7]).
We started to explore a Github Pages feature [12].
The mappings themselves can now be found at [8], which we should henceforth
take as our point of reference, superseding the original proposal [9].
On the call, we agreed to use a combination of the Github Issues tracker for
the Schema.org project [5] for some issues while recognizing that not we will
not be able to expect everyone involved in the process to get up to speed --
i.e., we will also need to use the dc-architecture list [10].
Ultimately, we only need to take a decision on 33 triples (see below) -- and we
have said that the decision will not be "written in stone" (in the manner of
DCMI Metadata Terms), but subject to revision in light of changes in
vocabularies or improved understanding.
I suggest, therefore, that we aim at holding a telecon in mid-February, during
which we will walk through the 33 alignments (consulting the details at [10])
and take a decision. After we take a decision on the call, we will announce
the "draft alignments" to the world for a comment period. After the comment
period, we will declare the alignments to be "published". I will post a Doodle
poll to schedule that call.
In the meantime, I suggest we experiment with tracking issues in the Github
issues tracker [5] (and on this list). Before we proceed, any comments (especially
from participants in Monday's call)?
Tom
