NEWS ARTICLE
Two new European free hotline numbers for children and adults (30
October 2007)The Commission has adopted a decision to reserve two
Europe-wide hotline numbers. The freephone numbers 116111 and 116123 are
aimed at children and adults who are seeking emotional support.


EVENT ANNOUNCEMENT
A Digital Europe: Delivering a secure e-environment for 
mobile European citizens
15 November 2007  Centre Borchette, BrusselsThe conference will provide
an overview of key security issues and research needs for developing
secure pan-European eGovernment services. It plans to raise greater
awareness of the importance of security in the development of
cross-border eGovernment services and foresees to deliver some policy
recommendations on security guarantees required to create a trusted
environment for mobile European citizens.


NEWS ARTICLE
NETC@RDS: new service points (30 October 2007)The initial deployment
phase of the NETC@RDS project is aimed at achieving the widest
implementation of an online service for the electronic European Health
Insurance Card (eEHIC). The existing service, already successfully
tested in 85 pilots across 10 EU Member States, will be progressively
extended to enable "non-planned" health care access for European mobile
citizens who provide evidence of their enrolment in the national
insurance schema. New service points at Hopital Saint-Roch in Nice
(France) and in the Loerrach area (Germany, French/Swiss border),
involving 5 ambulatories care and 2 hospitals, have been recently
inaugurated.

EVENT ANNOUNCEMENT
RoboBraille International Conference
30 November 2007  Soro Akademi in Soro, DenmarkSynscenter Refsnaes and
the RoboBraille Consortium are hosting an international conference on 30
November 2007 in order to introduce the RoboBraille Service and to
discuss how information technology can be used to support a more
inclusive information society. RoboBraille is an email-based service
capable of translating documents into either synthetic speech or
contracted Braille.

EVENT ANNOUNCEMENT
Privacy Enhancing Technologies: How to create a trusted 
Information Society
21 November 2007  London, UKOn May 2nd the European Commission adopted a
Communication "Promoting Data Protection by Privacy enhancing
Technologies (PETs)" in which it calls for stepping up research in and
development of PETs. In this context, the outcome of this event will be
taken into consideration by the European Commission in its formulation
of upcoming work programmes for funding calls in this area of the
FP7-ICT programme and will influence the direction of future research in
the fields of privacy and technology.

TVWF: The Commission has adopted its 6th Report on the 
application of the "Television without frontiers" directive
This report covers the application of the essential provisions of the
directive during the period 2005-2006 and the international aspects of
the audiovisual policy. It also analyses the recent developments in the
audiovisual landscape, which will be reflected in the forthcoming
audiovisual media services directive.
