Dear CGFers,
Just a reminder about the forum - papers are now available on the CGF
web site or directly from me. If you are thinking of writing a response
it would be useful to let me know that it's on its way. All comments on
the papers very welcome.

The text of my last message follows:
A number of people have asked for some
kind of printed record and reflection on the Shell-RGS dispute which
started in 1995 at the time of the Ogoni executions in Nigeria. What
I'm putting together is both a discussion of the dispute and the main
issues raised, and a chance for others to reflect on those issues. As I
say in my introduction this is a chance for some synergy between
electronic debate and printed journals. The journal Ethics, Place &
Environment has agreed to publish a version of the forum (subject to
editing and refereeing). The forum at present consists of an
introduction and four 'position papers' by Adam Tickell, Michael Woods,
David Storey, and Ian Maxey. What I'm looking for are further, shorter
reflections of up to 500 words. It would be good to hear from voices
not represented so far in the pieces we have. I will try to include at
least four or five of these in the version I submit for printed
publication.
How to get involved:
1. Read the forum pieces!
These are available at
http://www.mailbase.ac.uk/lists/crit-geog-forum/files/shell.htm
and can be downloaded from there. (This was done to avoid sending large
files over the CGF). Alternatively if you e-mail me with your
requirements I can send you a file in a range of formats (Word,
WordPerfect, RTF, plain text). [log in to unmask] Please note that
I'm away until 3rd September. Plese treat these as intermediate texts -
I've no problem with people using them in teaching etc. as long as it's
made clear that they are presented in the context of the forum and may
be revised subsequently.
2. Write a new comment
As I suggested above these should be no more than 500 words long. To
encourage debate please send them to the CGF rather than to me directly.
Obviously I can't guarantee that they will be included in the printed
version (the difference between virtual and printed forums - discuss).
Please include a brief note saying who you are. We will put all of them
on the WWW page - (all languages accepted!) There's no formal deadline
for comments (how can there be on an email discussion group), but I do
have to proceed with the printed version by the middle of next month, so
I'd welcome submissions no later than Friday 18th September, and
preferably much earlier.
3. Comment on what's been written
Obviously, I'd like to encourage 'public' discussion on the CGF as much
as possible. However it would also be useful to have comments about
individual papers so that the authors can amend them, and I would also
find comments about the shape and quality of the forum as a whole
useful. The journal version will be subject to traditional formal
refereeing, but it would also be good to have a different kind of
refereeing process now.
Please comment to the authors, and unless you feel it's inappropriate,
copy the comments to me:
