El Instituto de Estudios del Caribe de la Universidad de Puerto Rico-Río
Piedras (UPR-RP), invita a la comunidad universitaria y al público en
general a la conferencia: *“Materializando la colonialidad: La gestión
Clinton en Haití (1994-2015)”*, de la Dra. Melody Fonseca, Departamento de
Ciencia Política,  Facultad de Ciencias Sociales, UPR-RP. El Dr. Watson
Denis Universidad Estatal de Haití y Director Ejecutivo del Centro
Challenges, Haití, comentará la ponencia (vía Skype). La actividad tendrá
lugar el jueves, 25 de octubre de 2018, de 1:00 p.m. a 3:30 p.m., en el
Anfiteatro Manuel Maldonado Denis (CRA 108), Edificio Carmen Rivera de
Alvarado (CRA), Facultad de Ciencias Sociales, UPR-RP.

El 19 de septiembre de 1994, el ejército estadounidense intervino en Haití
con el propósito de reponer en el gobierno al presidente democráticamente
electo Jean-Bertrand Aristide. A partir de entonces, inició un proceso de
“state-building” y “peacebuilding” que devino en lo que se ha llamado la
“oenegización” de Haití y que se profundizó tras el terremoto de 2010, el
auge de la ayuda humanitaria y el manejo privado de dicha ayuda. En esta
conferencia se expondrá un análisis crítico desde el enfoque decolonial
sobre la política exterior estadounidense hacia Haití durante la
administración de Bill Clinton y el rol que ha tenido posteriormente la
Fundación Clinton en la gestión de los fondos de la USAID para la
reconstrucción posterremoto
