I have to agree with Peter that this list is not a proper place for
hot personal disputes, even if they arise from literary events. I by no
means would presume to dictate what people can post, but I feel it is
quite appropriate for me to point out that many of us view such duels
with all the fascinated interest we would feel in observing two nine
year olds playing an endless game of "got you last" in the back seat of
the car. May I suggest that as a courtesy to the rest of us those who
wish to engage in public wrangling at least take care to ensure that
their headers accurately reflect the agonistic nature of their emails,
so that the rest of us can react accordingly. As a public service I
have provided in the header of the current message an example, which
future disputants should feel free to use.
I also agree though less enthusiastically with Tim's objections to
straying into politics strictly speaking. I have to admit that I found
Robin's email of interest, and I tend to feel that any sort of protest
against the current atrocity should be welcomed. But once we start
talking politics, there's no end to it, and as Tim points out there is
no lack of other forums[*] for such expression.
On the other hand, poems about the current situation, or
considerations of how poets or poetry can affect it or are affected by
it, would be very much in order.

* Proper plural is fora but whenever I say that people look at me funny.
