I agree, Tim. Tone etc is hard to interpret correctly sometimes.
I do find though that as we progress through the era of political correctness, robust debating is seen as inappropriate. I’m waiting for the day to come when it is called “abuse” and we all end up in prison.

Can you remember what you got shouted down about Rhys?
When I got shouted down I always tended to fight back - part of the perpetual problem I suppose, not part of the solution. I tend to post when somebody says something I disagree with enough to spend time responding to - I make no bones of the fact I'm an 'issue' person. I still think a list like this is a better forum for discussing stuff in depth than fb but at the same time the way the thing works has pitfalls when it comes to 'tone' and 'misunderstanding' which can lead to some nasty exchanges - the worse thing that happens is when you find yourself being wilfully misrepresented and the more you try to put it right the deeper the hole gets. I think a psychologist would have a field day tracking back through the ways arguments develop here.
I hope the list continues anyway.
Cheers
