Very good audience to see the launch of a number of books.
Adrian Mitchell launched _a.k.a. knee jerk_ from Mainstream. Purely in the
scholarly interest of recording the remark, he said he had never been more
pleased with a book of his poetry as an object in his own right and thanked
Lawrence Upton profusely for the design and execution. It was nothing. L1.00
+ 50p from me payable to me
Lawrence Upton launched _Easy Kill_ from Writers Forum. L2.50 + L1.00
postage. Writers Forum's first A3 publication.
These are visual texts but - he having bronchitis - the texts were launched
with a collage verbal text-in-progress, related to the visuals, linking the
new piece to his
performance two weeks before of _not sudden a tool_, a loose leaf notebook
of works in progress. Major elements in the piece were the Book of Ezekiel
in the Kings James version and web-downloads produced by a search on
_angels_ on Alta Vista.
Adrian Clarke launched Millennial Shades & Three Papers; Writers Forum,
1998; ISBN 0 86162 810 1 reading both from the poem and the papers. In both
his poem sequences, Clarke is varying and expanding his technique
considerably, serious games, playful seriousness. Nor should we see the
papers as that separate from the poems.
Bob Cobbing launched _15 shakespeare kaku augmented_ 86162 818 7 L2.50 +
L1.00 postage. WF.
The Shakesepare Kaku were first published by Globe Playhouse Trust in 72. In
some ways they are quite simple - broken letraset I think - but then Pollock
is just dripped paint. Cobbing gets a fine wide range of effects with a
minimum of input material, and over the years I have found that reflected in
his performances. There is an unpublished - I think - performance by Cobbing
and the musician Laurence Casserly that deserves to be heard more widely.
_15 Shakespeare Kaku_ had run to 4 editions, in addition to the Globe
collection, and then, as I understand it, the Canadian poet contacted Bob,
having written the first review of the booklet in 25 years. Or so Bob says.
In response to some of Curry's comments in this review, Bob produced _kikaku
kaku_ and the new booklet launched on Saturday brings together the two poems
together with a full bibliographical history.
There were other performances, including the excellent Johan de Wit, but
that's enough for me so it may be enough for you
Next workshop upstairs victoria mornington place mornington crescent - tube
