As a postscript to the mailings of Alan Halsey & Eleanor Margolies, did you
see Undressed: fashion in 20c last Sunday. There was a Sonia Delaunay make
over of a Citroen. If I wanted a car I'd have that one. But even the
French are losing their love affair with the car. In "solar in Paris" I
wrote
In Paris tango is orange is still drunk that way I don't think Sonia
Delaunay inspired the advert although my friend Catherine thinks that her
first novel the man with the white vw inspired that latest vw ads which are
white and say that someone you love is driving one weren't they always
loveable he asks? or even the music on the red audi ad in post communist
russia was inspired by her second novel la varsovienne and I sd which car
is the next novel and she sd it;s a ford..."
In fact Catherine Axelrad's third novel (Gallimard 97) is about Victor
Hugo's sexual liaisons. And we talked about the pollution in Paris.
I love my bike, which also spells velo. The preferred revolutionary
vehicle. And does anyone else remember Beckett's theory of the bicycle?
velo, Frances
