I don't know if it's what you're looking for, but if I remember
correctly, it's thought there was docking at Fring on the Heecham River
in NW Norfolk, with access from the Wash. I don't know if this would
have been Saxon or later. If you're interested, I think I could get
contacts (Sedgeford Historical and Archaeological Research Project) who
would know more.
> Hello everyone,
> I'm looking for evidence of Viking Age (and Middle/Late Saxon) harbour structures in Britain. I found some in London and Lincoln but nothing really in places like York or Southampton. Is there anything to find or am I wasting my time?
> Also if anyone knows any other harbour/waterfront structures of the time it'd be greatly appreciated. Especially those in the areas of Scandinavian influence.
> PS: On an unrelated note: does anyone know what became of that supposed Viking Age axehead in Slimbridge that was in the news a few months ago (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-gloucestershire-16907224)? It seems they were prepared to continue to believe in it even after being told that it was something different.
