I faced this same problem a couple of years ago when I was trying to populate our own learning objects catalogue with the NLN materials.  We've had to put the NLN materials into the Content System as the original zip packages, and teaching staff then have to unpack these into each course they want the material on.  In some departments, several courses are using the same pieces of material which then results in wasted space and duplicated materials.

Last year, I put in an enhancement request through Behind the Blackboard.  We also want to see the Blackboard SCORM player implemented at the Content System level, rather than just the course level as it is currently.

If you also want to put in a similar enhancement request, our ticket number is 486667 for reference.  Maybe if enough of us request this, we might see it added in a future release...

i was wondering if anyone could shed some light on, or if anyone has had
experience with using the learning objects functionality within the
Blackboard Content System. Basically at UCB, we are looking at the
possibility of using the RLO catalogue for new learning objects developed at
the university and ones that have been downloaded from NLN and JORUM. I have
downloaded a set of NLN learning objects and exported then as a Blackboard
SCORM zip file. If you create a NLN content file within a course area, it
unpacks the folder and runs accordingly in the SCORM player, however as far
as i can see you cannot do this in the content system. We are wanting to be
able to store a repository of these learning objects that can be linked
across a variety of different course areas, however if they require you to
have to download the zip files and upload into your course area, then this
seems like a pointless exercise

If anyone can shed some light on the issue then please let me know, or if
anyone has used the catalogue and has some experiences with it that would be
great
