University of Surrey
School of Human Sciences
The University of Surrey is described by the Times Higher
as "the rising star of higher education".The majority of its academic staff
produce research of national and international importance and over a third of
its research-active staff are in 5-star rated disciplines.
We are now setting up a new multimedia communications laboratory - "The
I-Lab," a multidisciplinary centre combining Communications, Computing
and Social Science. The I-Lab is funded by a £2.5m SRIF grant and will
be a state-of-the-art 'multimedia' laboratory. The component
disciplines are 5-star RAE rated and our aim is to build on these
strengths, capitalising on our extensive commercial and European
contracts. The area of research will be in mobile-multimedia,
particularly in the human-user domain, and its interaction with future
service provision and systems design. The I-Lab will comprise an
existing Multimedia Communications research group from the School of
Electronics and Physical Sciences and the Digital World Research Centre
from the School of Human Sciences.
We are now seeking to make an appointment to the post of
Director of the Digital World Research Centre (Ref: 3544)
The Director will be a distinguished, dynamic and internationally
recognised senior researcher to continue the development of the Digital
World Research Centre's multidisciplinary programme. We are interested
in receiving applications from candidates with an international
reputation in the field of the economic, social or psychological
consequences of the development and use of information technologies. A
proven track record in attracting funding from research councils,
commercial and other funders is essential. The appointee will be
mainly research based but will be expected to lecture to postgraduate
students in the DWRC.
