About the role
The role of Freedom of Information Manager sits within the Freedom of Information Centre, part of the Transfer and Access Department, who work with government departments to ensure public records are transferred and made available to the Public.
The FOI Managers within the FOI Centre are responsible for holding and promoting FOI knowledge and expertise. They are accountable for establishing our legal positions in ICO appeals, to ensure we remain FOI/DPA compliant, using expert knowledge of the legislation.
Further to their role as information rights experts, they form part of the FOI Management team, supporting the Head of Centre in their role, but most importantly they motivate, provide leadership and day-to-day management to their direct reports, FOI Assessors. This includes managing the recruitment process, overseeing training provisions and development of staff, using their knowledge of information rights legislation and management skills.
About you
To fulfil this role requires that you have experience of managing staff, preferably in an operational or casework environment. You will also have a background and understanding of handling and answering Freedom of Information, Data Protection and Environmental Information Regulations requests. Furthermore this role requires that you will have highly developed drafting skills and ability to write persuasively, explaining specific points of law to different audiences, as this will form a large part of your day-to-day responsibilities.
