The National Archives (TNA) holds records of central government from the
Domesday Book to the present day. The Records Management Department at TNA
works with other government departments and other public bodies to ensure
that they follow best practice in records management.  This covers the
entire life cycle of public records, in whatever format, from creation
through to destruction or transfer to TNA 

Opportunities within Records Management

Client Manager
Kew                                                             £25,836 -
£31,507pa

As Client Manager you will be responsible for providing guidance and
supervision to a group of government departments and agencies. Your role
will include selecting records worthy of permanent preservation and for
promoting a high standard of records management.

The successful candidate will have an archival/records management
qualification and/or relevant practical experience, and an understanding of
electronic records management. Excellent communication skills and the
ability to influence others are essential to managing relationships. You
must also be able to manage your work to ensure deadlines and targets are
met.

The successful candidate will be expected to travel to other government
departments' sites within the UK and may be required to undergo developed
vetting for security purposes.

Interviews will be held on Friday 14th of May 2004.

Head of (e-)Business Change                             £31,500 - £37,000pa
Kew

This is a new position that brings together project management skills in
relation to electronic records management (ERM) with wider leadership skills
in carrying people through considerable cultural and professional change. As
Head of e-Business Change you will manage projects within TNA's corporate
and business plans and represent these projects to both senior management
and external audiences. You will act as ERM champion in central government.
Your role will include developing guidance to other government departments
on aspects of records and information management and developing appropriate
training and support products to meet requirements.

To be successful in this role you will have postgraduate archival or records
management qualification and/or proven, extensive experience. You will need
extensive experience of electronic records management and knowledge of best
practice in records and information management. Excellent communication
skills and the ability to influence others are essential to managing
relationships. You will need to be able to think strategically and have
budget management experience. 

Interviews will be held on Tuesday 18th May 2004.




Access Manager                                          £31,500 - £37,000pa
Kew - 2 year fixed term contract with the possibility of extension or
permanency.

The Access Manager will have responsibility for the further development of
TNA's system for access regulation (SAR), a vital component in our
management of access to historical records. You will ensure that SAR is
populated with descriptions of closed records, and is accessible to records
managers in government. You will coordinate and communicate activities in
relation to release of records and Freedom of Information developments
connected with historical records. 

The successful applicant will have archival, records management or a
relevant information science or IT qualification. You will be a strategic
thinker, with good understanding of the Freedom of Information Act 2000. You
will also need excellent communication skills, drafting skills and the
ability to train others. Knowledge of 20th century British history and
government will be highly regarded.

Interviews will be held on Thursday 6th May 2004.

Communication and Business Monitoring Coordinator       £19,500 - £23,000pa
Kew

The Communication and Business Monitoring Coordinator leads a small team to
arrange the annual Records Management in Government conference, ensuring the
different elements are completed on time and within budget, and to a quality
which enhances TNA's professional reputation. You will be the main point of
contact with Records Managemenr Department's publications designers,
ensuring they first develop a design standard and then apply it to the wide
range of RMD publications. You will agree with them the publications
programme and ensuring they deliver to agreed time, cost and quality
standards. Also, you will be responsible for RMD business and budget
management.

The successful applicant will have excellent organisational and negotiating
skills. You will be a self-starter and team player and leader. Your
analytical skills and attention to detail will be invaluable.

Interviews will be held on Friday 7th May 2004.

The closing date for all jobs is 21st April 2004.
