Esteemed Colleagues
The latest object in the history of Radley College deals with letters and
newspaper reports related to the Sawar Uprising/rebellion/mutiny/ First
Indian War of Independence in 1857, and so may be of wider interest. Here
is the blurb...
Imagine a world where communication travels overland at the speed of a
horse. Imagine that a disaster such as 9/11 happens. You have parents,
friends, old pupils in New York. It will be a month before you know that
anything has happened, and another 18 days before details start to come
through. Imagine sitting at breakfast at boarding school waiting for the
newspapers, your only source of information.
Welcome to the world of Object No 7 - a letter home, 1857
