Overview Of Role
A vacancy has become available for a Transformation Technician within the Crop Transformation and Genome Editing Group at Rothamsted Research.
Working as part of a team, the post will be responsible for carrying out plant transformation via particle bombardment or Agrobacterium tumefaciens and sub-culturing experiments to regenerate transgenic plants. Additionally, the role will involve PCR-genotyping of the plants generated and molecular cloning of CRISPR/Cas expression cassettes for genome editing applications in crops.
Whilst training will be given, good sterile technique and previous experience with plant tissue culture will be considered an advantage. Other duties will include preparing sterile plant culture media and stock solutions, and pouring agar plates for use by the group.
The candidate should be meticulous, paying close attention to detail with good hand-to-eye co-ordination and be prepared to carry out some tasks of a repetitive nature. Careful record keeping is an essential part of the role. Interaction with others in the team is required with flexibility to carry out tasks as requested. The candidate must be willing to work with genetically modified organisms and be compliant with Health and Safety and GM regulations.
This is a fixed full-time position ending 01/04/2022, with a starting salary within the range of £24,225 to £26,573 per annum.
