Departmental Lecturer in African Anthropology
School of Interdisciplinary Area Studies and the School of Anthropology and Museum Ethnography in association with St Anne's College, Oxford
Grade 7: £31,604 - £38,833 p.a.
Applications are invited for a Departmental Lecturer in African Anthropology position from mid-September 2018 to mid-July 2019. The fixed-term role is needed for a limited time to provide cover for the teaching commitments of the substantive postholder who is on research leave for this period.
The primary function of this post is to engage in teaching, supervising and examining graduate students on the MSc in African Studies and the Master's programmes in Social Anthropology and take an active part in the intellectual life of the Schools and College. The Schools are seeking an inspirational teacher with both breadth and depth of knowledge of the key subject area of the post and a full command of the relevant literature.
You will possess a doctorate in a relevant field and be able to demonstrate an aptitude for teaching social anthropology and African studies. You will have sufficient depth of knowledge in the subject to develop course materials and sound research proposals and a publication record and/or evidence of potential for high-quality research outputs with leading journals.
The post is based at the School of Interdisciplinary Area Studies (SIAS) African Studies Centre, 13 Bevington Road, Oxford, OX2 6LH and The School of Anthropology and Museum Ethnography (SAME), 51 - 53 Banbury Road, Oxford, OX2 6PE.
