PhD GRANT in MATHEMATICS/STATISTICS
AT NORSK REGNESENTRAL
Norsk Regnesentral (NR, the Norwegian Computing Center) is a research
institute with strong competence in the field of statistics and
mathematical modelling.
We offer a three year PhD grant (Doktorgradsstipend) linked to our
research within petroleum in the group
Statistical Analysis of Natural Resource Data. See internet adress
http://www.nr.no/sand.
The grant starts from January 1st 2000. The annual salary is about 250
000
NOK. It may be possible to move this starting point some months in
both directions. The Research Council of Norway has funded two PhDs
within petroleum at NR. This is part of the Research Councils program
within fundamental research in petroleum. The candidate and the
supervisor decides how applied the research should be. The candidate
will work at NR in Oslo and her/his final degree will be at the
University of Oslo. We expect that there will be a close cooperation
between the candidate, members of the SAND group and members of the
university staff.
Ragnar Hauge started at a PhD within statistical analysis of seismic
data April 1st 1999. The PhD candidate starting next year is supposed
to focus on history matching. History matching is an important inverse
problem with considerable industrial interest. There are many
interesting statistical and mathematical problems connected to history
matching both applied problems and more fundamental research problems.
Applications should reach us by November 6th 1999. Please send your
CV, a list of your university exams with grades (vitnemål), a
copy of your master thesis (hovedoppgave) and/or any other relevant
material to:
