Epidemiologist / Statistician
NUFFIELD DEPARTMENT OF MEDICINE, KEMRI-Wellcome Programme, Kenya
Grade 8: Salary £36,532 - £43,622 with a discretionary range to £47,666 p.a.
We have an exciting and challenging vacancy for a Epidemiologist / Statistician to join several leading international scientists working with 30-40 Kenyan health researchers in Nairobi as part of the KEMRI-Wellcome Trust Major Overseas Programme. Scientific teams in Nairobi work on Malaria, Health Systems and Child and Newborn Health. A wide variety of research and analytical approaches are employed including but not limited to: clinical and health systems intervention trials, systematic reviews, cost-effectiveness analyses, multi-level modelling, geo-spatial modelling, and time-series analyses.
This new post has been created as part of a recently funded Wellcome Trust Strategic Award to help support and develop the Nairobi work and its role as a centre for training young Kenyan scientists. The post is funded for an initial period of three years but it is expected that further funding will be sought to maintain this position. Based in Nairobi, the postholder will also be a member of the Centre for Tropical Medicine and the Department of Public Health in Oxford.
You will have a postgraduate qualification in statistics or a related subject with approximately three to seven years’ postdoctoral (or equivalent) experience. You will have a strong interest in health in developing countries and commitment to working in a multidisciplinary team. Scientific writing skills as evidenced by papers in the international literature are essential and experience of working in a low-income country would be highly desirable.
The post is available for 3 years in the first instance.
