*RETAIN The Birkbeck Pain Project is a two-year pilot project funded by the Wellcome Trust. Itsets out to advance our understanding between corporeality and culture by exploring thecomplex biomedical, neurological, psychological, cognitive, and sensory aspects of the body in pain. Our approach is both historical (1760s to the 1960s) and transcultural. We are analysingnarratives of pain from diverse communities, including those whose voices were seldomheard. These include slave populations, prisoners, the poor, immigrant and religiousgroups, and children. This list aims to bring together scholars working in pain studies from any discipline, particularly in the arts, humanities and social sciences. It is intended to provide anonline forum that encourages members to share ideas and knowledge, and where details ofconferences, seminars and new publications can be posted. ***This list has been retained 04/08/15.
