CALL FOR PAPERS
Workshop on: 'Civic Crowdfunding and Citizen-led Micro-regeneration: case studies from European cities'
Date: 22 April 2016 (10am – 5pm)
Location: Amsterdam (Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences)
Organizers: Dr Silvia Gullino (UCL), Dr Carolina Pacchi (Politecnico of Milano), Dr Heidi Seetzen (Kingston University), Dr Beatrice De Carli (University of Sheffield), Dr Cristina Cerulli (University of Sheffield)
This workshop is part of the conference ‘Design & The City’ (http://designandthecity.eu). It provides the opportunity to discuss emerging practices of civic crowdfunding initiatives as generators of new forms of local participation and as activators of new forms of citizen-led, innovative micro-regeneration projects in European cities.
By using digital platforms to raise money and fund public assets, citizens become increasingly more active in designing, resourcing and transforming urban spaces. The focus of this workshop is specifically on small-scale projects.
We encourage the submission of papers based on cases of civic crowdfunding, which focus on, but not exclusively, themes like:
• local participation and urban governance;
• social innovation;
• digital platform and public participation;
• activism and community building;
• design and regeneration of urban spaces (e.g. playgrounds, highstreets, green spaces, community centres...).
We particularly invite participants with relevant academic, policy or practitioner backgrounds in planning, community studies and social science. We would particularly welcome promoters of civic crowdfunding projects.
Submissions should be sent by e-mail to Silvia Gullino ([log in to unmask]) no later than 1 March 2016 and acceptance will be notified to the author(s) by 8 March 2016.
Submissions should include:
• author(s) name(s);
• short bio(s);
• email contact details;
• title of the abstract;
• abstract of no more than 250 words;
• keywords;
• key references.
The cost of the workshop is €25 which will go towards coffee, lunch and other organizational costs.
One of the main outcomes of the workshop will be to initiate working partnerships between researchers, practitioners and policy-makers across Europe, establish a long lasting network, identify further lines of research enquiry and a collection of single or multi-authored papers.
