Hello colleagues - happy belated new year and I hope you all managed to get some downtime over the holidays.
Anyway, a quick reminder that I am hoping that I can find someone/several peeps to take my place as I step down from being the GMMP national coordinator for the UK and RoI contribution to GMMP 2025. I am also the coordinator for ‘England’ which really means national, and also the regional coordinator for the European region.
If anyone is interested in knowing more about any of these roles, please let me know and I would be very happy to [...]

Call For Book Chapters: Beyond Networks of Domination: Rethinking Machinic Media, Digitality & Cinema of our Times

Editors: Ananya Roy Pratihar(IMIS,Bhubaneswar), Saswat Samay Das (IIT, Kharagpur) & Shashibhushan Nayak(GP Nayagarh)

The biopolitical schemas for restructuring machinic networks of Media, Digital, and cinema do not stand as productive mimicries of mediations prerequisite for effecting an anthropological clearing (with Cracks, throws and blows, as Sloterdjik puts it) or grafting some kind of symbolic unity on chaotic materiality. Rather, such schemas act as ambivalent double-pincered mechanisms, turning loose incessant networked flows on the one hand, only to reduce them to domesticable or governable [...]

Hello everyone – as you may know, the next GMMP will take place in 2025. By then (and actually much earlier 😊) I will have retired and I am now seeking colleagues to get involved in the management of the GMMP exercise for the UK/RoI. Each of the five nations has its own coordinator and we currently have coordinators in place for Scotland and Republic of Ireland which is great. We are now seeking coordinators for Northern Ireland, England and Wales, as well as an overall coordinator for the composited UK/RoI exercise since, although we collect data separately for each [...]

Hi everyone,

Earlier this month the Government earlier this month published its response to the HE reform consultation<https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/1172766/CP876_Higher_Education_Policy_Statement_and_Reform_Government_consultation_response_-_web.pdf> following the recommendations from the Augar review, prompting a particularly egregious press-release headline<https://www.gov.uk/government/news/crackdown-on-rip-off-university-degrees>: “crackdown on rip-off university degrees”.

The idea of “rip-off degrees” or “low value courses” is a reductionist rhetoric that frames university education in a narrow and instrumental way, designed solely to enhance employment prospects and serve industry demands. MeCCSA strongly rejects this narrow and instrumental interpretation of the aims of Higher Education, as we did in our response to the OfS consultation on these proposals in March 2022<https://www.meccsa.org.uk/app/uploads/2022/03/MeCCSA-response-to-OfS-Consultation-on.pdf>.
