The English Department of the University of Mannheim, Germany,
invites applications for the position of Lektor/Lektorin as of April
1, 2000, for a maximum period of five years.

Job description: Teaching of English for academic purposes to
German students of English (grammar, vocabulary, stylistics,
phonetics, etc.). The ability to teach courses in British and/or
American cultural studies (Landeskunde) and British or American
media studies will be a definite advantage.

Applicants should be native speakers of English and have a university
degree (at least MA or other postgraduate degree) in English/German
and/or the Teaching of English as a Foreign Language/Applied
Linguistics. Excellent command of German is needed.

The salary is based on the German BAT scale. Teaching load will be 16
hours during the semester, with additional duties between semesters
(development of teaching, exercise and test materials; preparation
for the semester, preparation and correction of exams etc.). Teaching
load and additional responsibilities amount to the current legal norm
of 38.5 hours per week.
