INSTITUTE OF EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY MULTIMEDIA AND ENABLING TECHNOLOGIES GROUP RESEARCH FELLOW - HUMAN FACTORS IN 3D AUDIO VIRTUAL ENVIRONMENTS Ref: RF3D/10494 (1-year post) This EPSRC-funded post is offered specifically to undertake integrated technical research and development and empirical work on the human perception of sound and studies into the application of 3 dimensional sound for enhanced human computer interaction. These lines of research are all directed toward specific application areas identified for computer users with a visual impairment. You will be an experienced researcher competent in software development. You will undertake empirical research into the validity and practicality of the application of Ambisonics to the computer generation of 3 dimensional virtual environments and you will investigate and identify the user needs, cognitive, perceptual and technical factors that impinge on the further development required to exploit this approach for visually impaired people. We would be interested to hear from you if you have a first degree or equivalent experience in psychology, computer science or other appropriate discipline and a PhD or demonstrable research experience in cognitive science, human computer interfaces, audio technology or related fields as well as good communication, writing and organisational skills. The post is tenable for twelve months from January 2000 and will be based with the MET Group at the OU campus in Milton Keynes. Salary will be on the Research staff scale, £16,286 - £24,479 pa depending on experience and qualifications.
