The UK Evaluation Society (UKES)

The UKES exists to promote and improve the theory, practice, understanding and utilisation of evaluation and its contribution to public knowledge. It was founded in 1994 and already has almost 200 full members with many more participating in the Society's activities.

Membership comprises evaluation professionals, practitioners, and evaluation commissioners from national and local government, the research community, independent consultancies and the voluntary sector. Members represent a range of inquiry fields including social services, economic development, education, science and technology, health care management and policy.

The Society builds bridges between the various groups and between the different evaluation communities providing a forum to consider differences and similarities in the problems they face, for example: intellectual, ethical and professional standards, principles and practices; the theory, practice, utilisation and methods of evaluation; education, training and professional development; and the need to represent the interests of those concerned with evaluation to governments and other bodies in the UK and elsewhere.

The Society runs seminars and training events, has a bulletin (The Evaluator), a directory of members' interests, and an annual conference (this year on 9th - 10th December at Heriot Watt University in Edinburgh). Members can also take a subscription at very favourable rates to the international journal Evaluation, published by Sage.

Individual membership costs £60 pa with a subscription to the international journal Evaluation, published by Sage (or £46 pa without the journal); student rates are available
Corporate membership of UKES provides sponsorship of the Society to promote its aims and objectives.
