With apologies for any cross-posting:

UK Evaluation Society Annual Conference 1999 'Evaluation in the New Policy Environment', Edinburgh Conference Centre, Heriot Watt University, Edinburgh, 9th - 10th December 1999.

This is the fifth annual conference of the UKES and will address the implications of the new policy environment on evaluation. Is the role of evaluation changing in the context of important shifts in government structures and processes including those raised by the 'Modernising Government' white paper. In the current policy environment, are there new opportunities for evaluators, for new concepts and approaches? What are the opportunities and constraints facing commissioners and practitioners which influence how evaluation is actually practised? What dilemmas are created for evaluators?

The conference will comprise plenary sessions with the following keynote speakers:
*	Professor Nicoletta Stame, President of the Italian Evaluation Society
*	Professor Robert Walker, Director of the Centre for Research in Social Policy, University of Loughborough.
*	Sue Baldwin, Head of Planning and Evaluation, Scottish Enterprise

*	Evaluation of new policy initiatives

*	Innovative approaches
