Building the UK Electronic Library: EARL and the vision of a national virtual public library service.
******************************************

Morning of 10th November 1999, Central London.

The UK Electronic Library will act as the national gateway to the New Public Library, providing electronic content and services relevant to the needs of users. It will make innovative use of networking tools, and enable access to the unique resources of public libraries.

Phase one of the project has focussed on developing the potential of three key strands: An Internet resource guide for public library users, a guide to special collections in public libraries, and an online enquiry service.

This half day seminar will present the results of the research so far, show directions for future development, and give an opportunity to view the prototype website. Speakers include Debora Parr, UKEL Co-Ordinator, EARL, and key figures in the fields of collection description and resource discovery.

This seminar will be free to attend. A full agenda will be posted shortly.
