Von der Osten & Vey (1969) suggested that his name was
Jeroen van Aken and
that he was called Bosch after the town 's-Hertogenbosch
to which his father had moved, although, unfortunately they do not quote their
source.
Such abbeviations are common in Dutch even today, witness Den Haag
for
's-Gravenhage.
