I thought I'd introduce myself to the
list.
My name is Bob and I'm a Specialist Firearms Officer in the
Metropolitan Police, London. I've recently completed the Police Advanced Medics
Course at a local hospital. This a new move for the police and is designed to
fill the vacuum between firearms incident and definitive care, when the tactics
dictate that it is not safe for paramedics / Hems etc to venture in, and we
cannot get the casualty out.
As this situation may for various reasons go on
for some time, I have been trained in intubation, IV access, needle cric, chest
drain etc., not to mention the medico-legal aspects involving confidentiality.
I've practised these skill in either a clinical environment, or the
mortuary.
As this is a relatively new venture for both the firearms teams, me
and the police ,(and we clearly have much to learn), I'd be grateful for any
views, fair or foul that may help me improve the service that I give in this
area.
Regards to all
Bob
