THE OED defines a presentation as:
"presentation  n.   demonstration or display of materials, information,
etc..; a lecture."!!

So it is difficult to suggest there is a difference literally. I suspect a
lecture is more didactic and provides answers to your question whereas a
presentation has more personal views, is less formal and
raises more points of contention/debate.

More likely, they were talking out of their *****
