NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL RESEARCH SOCIAL SCIENTIST/ECONOMIST - EMPLOYMENT POLICY The National Institute of Economic and Social Research is one of Britain's most influential and prestigious independent research centres. It provides good opportunities for those seeking research careers, or subsequent senior positions in international organisations, government, central banks of the private sector. A researcher is required to join our Employment Policy Group. The position offers the opportunity for a junior researcher to develop a high level of qualitative and quantitative research skills, including survey design and analysis. Research interests of the group include education and training as well as employment. The appointee will initially work on two studies: a study of the barriers to employment for offenders and ex-offenders, which is based on survey and qualitative research with offenders and with employers, and a study of the support needs of unemployed people entering self-employment, based on qualitative research. Future studies are likely to require competence in econometric or multi-variate statistical analysis. Candidates should have good quantitative skills, have (or be willing to acquire) qualitative research skills and have a background in an employment-related discipline. Masters degree or higher and/or research experience is required. Starting salary in the range of stlg16,731 to stlg22,027 depending on qualifications and experience. Exceptionally well-qualified candidates with post-doctoral research experience may be appointed at up to stlg25,364.
