Hello,

I am Prof. Albrecht Classen and teach at the University of Arizona in the
Dept. of German Studies. My previous work dealt with late-medieval German
lyric poetry, chapbooks, travelogues, but also with high medieval German
romances and love poetry. Most recently I edited a volume on "The Book and
the Magic of Reading in the Middle Ages" (New York-London: Garland, 1998),
in which the contributors mostly dealt with literary and art historical
documents. I am interested in medieval religion insofar as it pertains to
medieval mentality and allows us to gain important insights in medieval
patterns of thinking, spiritual attitudes, and culture at large. I work,
among other things, with German mystical texts and especially with women
mystics. I am less interested in the religious experience, instead I focus
on women's ability to express themselves in literary and spiritual terms.
I am also fascinated by the crossover from philosophy to religion and want
to learn more about Meister Eckhart, Heinrich Seuse, Heinrich Tauler, among
others, and what concept of life they espoused.
