Would you like to improve communications within your department or
organisation?

This new one day workshop will show you how.

Effective corporate communications
20 October, LAHQ, London

Recent reports, such as 'Partnerships with People', (DTI, 1997) suggest that
effective corporate communication is the most important aspect of
management, especially in organisations which are undergoing rapid and major
change.

Yet a recent survey from the Industrial Society suggested that less than 40%
of organisations have a communications strategy, only half have a budget for
internal communications and less than 1 in 5 have staff dedicated to this
vital area. However, a lack of effective communication has an adverse effect
on productivity through creating problems of motivation, increasing stress
levels among staff and allowing mistakes and misunderstandings to dominate.

How will this event help you?
This new one day workshop will assist library and information managers who
wish to ensure that communication within their department or section is
planned, co-ordinated and effective.

By the end of the day you will have:
*	an understanding of how a systematic approach to communication can
improve the work of your organisation

*	examined the different methods of communication and the pros and
cons of each approach

*	considered how to carry out an audit of communications and give
practical help in developing a communications strategy

*	explored how to encourage upward communication

*	carried out practical work on communicating major change

*	exchanged ideas and approaches and developed an action plan for
future action.
