     Call for Papers: Erasmus Institute of Communication Culture

The Erasmus Institute of Communication Culture in Budapest, Hungary,
announces a conference, to be held in Budapest during March 22-25,
2000: "The Transformation of Communication Culture in the Post-
Socialist States of Europe: from National to Global Culture."

The Conference has four themes (sessions):

1. Changes of Identity. Includes alterations in the communication
   patterns of the new national governments in an increasingly global
   environment, in the images of new states, in the symbolic and real
   boundaries, etc.

2. The Impact of Economic Changes on Communications Culture and 
Public
   Life. Includes changes in values, in competencies, with special
   attention to the role and impact of multinational companies
   operating in the transforming economies.

3. Changes in Political Communication. Includes alterations in the
   practices of power, development of the marketplace of ideas,
   interest promotion, role of the media, political marketing and PR

4. Changes in Communications Culture. Includes the means and language
   of public communication, global communication networks.

The language of the Conference is English. Papers fitting with, or
related to, any of the above topics are welcome. Paper proposals with
a max one page abstract and brief CV of the author(s) should be
submitted by October 31, 1999. Notification of acceptance will be sent
by November 15, 1999. For accepted paper presenters, the organizers
will cover the cost of lodging and meals during the conference.
