Dear List

These references are not exactly popular prayers, but may be of use?

Re. St. Christopher - There is a reference in M.D. Anderson, Drama and
Imagery in English Medieval Churches (Cambridge: Cambridge University
Press, 1963), p.137 - to a wall painting in Wood Eaton (Oxon.) which is
inscribed 'LO CEST IMAGE VERRA LE JUR DE MALE MORT NE MURRA' - (I think,
I'm looking at notes, not having the book to hand)- who looks upon this
image, that day shall not die an ill death'

C.E. Keyser, A List of Buildings in Great Britain and Ireland having Mural
and Other Painted Decoration (London: HMSO, 1883) p.138 states that of the
186 wall paintings found of St. Christopher, nearly all were placed where
they could be seen from the threshold of the front door.
