The position is based in Vermont, but requires extensive travel domestically and occasional travel to Russia or Ukraine. The Educational Programs Manager will work closely with staff abroad in Russia and Ukraine. Project Harmony has been strengthening and consolidating its educational program work in recent years. As a result, the organization seeks a new staff member to coordinate all program planning and implementation for these programs: * School Linkage Programs (USIA-funded exchanges) * Direct School Exchange Programs (privately funded exchanges) * Teacher Intern Program (US teachers in the NIS) * Teacher Exchange Program (NIS-US professional exchanges) * Teacher trips (privately funded professional enhancement trips) This is a full-time position with an initial contract of one year; a one to three year commitment is preferred. Responsibilities * Work closely with staff members in St. Petersburg, Petrozavodsk, Moscow, Irkutsk and Samara, Russia and Lviv, Kyiv and Odessa, Ukraine * Work closely with secondary school teachers, administrators, students and parents * Conduct planning sessions with teachers from US partner schools; conduct orientations for students preparing to travel and families preparing to host * Greet NIS student groups upon arrival and assist them in acclimating to the US * Manage all program budgets with bookkeeping assistance * Maintain accurate database of program participants and working partners * Create and continually update program materials * Maintain constant program correspondence between Project Harmony offices, funding sources and partner schools * Conduct ongoing program evaluations * Promote Project Harmony Educational Programs on the PH web site and through other venues * Recruit participating schools and educators Qualifications * Excellent Russian language skills; living or extensive travel experience in the NIS; significant knowledge of Russian and/or Slavic culture and history * Highly organized, able to prioritize multiple projects and tasks, pays attention to detail and able to work independently and in a team environment * High interest in secondary education * Experience or interest in service-learning or civic education * People-oriented, enthusiastic, strong intercultural communication skills, team player * Fiscal responsibility and familiarity with budgets * Bachelor's degree, preferably in a related field * Flexibility in adapting to new challenges Benefits include international travel expenses, health insurance, small organization with ability for job growth and a friendly working environment. Project Harmony, a not-for-profit professional and educational exchange and training organization with offices in the US, Russia and Ukraine currently seeks a qualified professional to fill the position of Program Manager for the Internet Access and Training Program in Russia. Fluency in Russian is MANDATORY. The position is based in Moscow, with extensive field travel throughout Russia. A two-year commitment is sought. Project Harmony seeks immediate placement (no later than August 15, 1999). While primary management responsibilities will cover the Internet Access and Training Program, this position will involve coordination for Internet training and education components of several Project Harmony programs in Russia. Summary of the IATP Program The Internet Access and Training Program is a technology development initiative which enhances non-commercial access to and use of the Internet throughout Russia, in particular for educators and alumni of US government-funded exchange and training programs. Over the course of the next two years, Project Harmony will conduct training programs, professional workshops and online events based out of a network of 32 IATP public access centers in twenty communities across Russia. In addition to seminars and workshops, Project Harmony will work closely with educators and professionals, as well as partner institutions, to develop a large base of electronic resource materials in the Russian language. US- Russian relationships will be strengthened through the development of free and open channels for communication between individuals and organizations. Over 200 educators will receive comprehensive Internet training and more than 400 Internet-related workshops will be conducted. Through this program, Project Harmony will also distribute $250,000 in small grants to Russian professionals and organizations to develop Russian-language online resources.
