Industrial history with a view to the future

An exhibition on Sweden's industrial history will be inaugurated by Marita
Ulvskog, Sweden's Minister of Culture, in the old Steam Power Plant in
Västerås on September 5 1999. The Exhibition is called "ENERGIA
1999/Pannhus 11 - an exhibition on impressions and visions of Swedish
industrial society". The purpose of the exhibition is to stimulate an
interest in the cultural heritage of Sweden's industrial society and to
create an environment where industrial, cultural, research and educational
interests can meet and share ideas.

A number of seminars have been arranged in conjunction with the exhibition
during the month of September. The themes of these seminars are: industrial
history, building preservation, product development and design. A cultural
program that includes music, slide shows, video and film is also being
arranged.

ENERGIA 1999/Pannhus 11 addresses not only the broad public but also
special sectors such as industry, governmental organisations and
educational institutions.

The exhibitions is designed with contributions from organisations such as
Kungliga Tekniska Högskolan (The Royal Institute of Technology), Nordiska
Museet (Nordic Museum) , Sjöhistoriska Museet (Maritime Museum), LO (labour
union), ABB and Vattenfall (industries). The exhibition is arranged by
Länstyrelsen (county council) in Västmanland, Landstinget (county
administration) Västmanland, and the City of Västerås in collaboration with
the Swedish Industrial History Forum.
