£671,000, will have research teams led by Professor David Tranfield at Cranfield School of Management and Professor John Bessant at the Centre for Innovation Management at the University of Brighton. Briefly, this project is concerned to investigate how knowledge is transferred between and across teams in various business environments. The project will involve collaborative work with experienced companies and organisations in all aspects of manufacturing including process, construction and aerospace, as well as financial services and medical management in the Health Service. The project will develop research findings and conceptual models from which a design specification for a prototype methodology to enable effective teamworking will be developed. There is particular interest in the cognitive and behavioural routines necessary to identify, articulate, codify and share information to enable learning and knowledge transfer to take place: · project to project · team to team · from environment to project team. The Studentship Within the context of the above, the successful applicant will develop a research proposal specific to their own research interest, but contributing to the work undertaken by the project team. Applicants may choose to develop their research on a thematic issue or may choose to adopt a sectoral focus. It is envisaged that the main EPSRC project will begin in the Autumn of 1999 and will last for two years, thus providing the intellectual focus and support for this exciting studentship.
