Many thanks to everyone who responded to my query about ghosts.

Another query in the same field: in several stories, Kipling refers
to "looking in the inkpool". It occurs in "Finest Story Ever Told", I
think it is in the "House of Suddhoo" and I noticed it last night
towards the end of "Kim".

Is there any ethno-ghostly explanation about this, or was this
Kipling just trying to create atmosphere?
