Clearly those intellectuals in Serbia, who campaigned for market democracy, are guilty of the civilian deaths in the bombing raids on Serbia (including Kosovo). It is hypocrtiical to demand for 5 years that "the West" should enforce market democracy in Yugoslavia, and then complain when "The West" does so. None of these people can claim, they did not know a military intervention was coming. It happened in Bosnia already, and it was repeatedly announced before it started. It is fundamentally wrong in itself to campaign for market democracy. The free market, like all forms of liberal society, is morally wrong. But campaigning for market democracy, in the form of appeals for western intervention, in Yugoslavia, after the Dayton Accords, was a clear incitment to military action. It is right that those who did so, should be tried for the deaths they have caused. Such a trial would force them to explicitise their apparent belief in the legitimacy of killing for liberal democracy. -- Paul Treanor http://www.diagonal.demon.nl/koseth.html %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%
