CEU CALLS FOR APPLICATIONS FOR JOINT APPOINTMENTS AT CEU AND
UNIVERSITIES IN THE EAST CENTRAL EUROPEAN REGION

Successful applicants will be appointed to 3-5 year periods at CEU,
to teach in either the Spring or the Fall, for a 12-week period
(3 months). During this time the applicant will be expected to teach
6 credits (6 classroom hours per weeks for 12 weeks) and supervise
at least the these of 2 Master's students while in residence at CEU
and by correspondence during the whole academic year.

The successful applicant will receive:
* $2,000 stipend per month  ($6,000 in total)
* housing (in Budapest at the university residence)
* health insurance while in Budapest or Warsaw
* round-trip ticket from home to Budapest or Warsaw

Applicants accompanied by their spouse will receive an additional
$200 supplement per month, and 2 round-trip tickets.

The successful applicant must have a Ph.D. or equivalent, a
recognized academic record, and an ability to conduct his/her
subject in English (the official language of CEU). The applicant
must hold a university teaching position (at least associate
professor, docent or equivalent) and must have the consent of
his/her home university to accept the post at CEU. The home
university will receive $1,000 per month ($3,000 in total) for
specific educational uses while the applicant is at CEU.
The university will also be encouraged to develop other joint
projects with CEU.

Applicants should send a CV, list of publications, 2 letters of
recommendation, and the approval of the Rector, or the Dean or
Department Head of the home university. He/She must also enclose
course proposals (syllabus, reading list) for EITHER one 4-credit
course and one 2-credit course or three 2-credit courses.

Central European University through the Human Resources Office
(Address: Nador u. 9, Budapest, H-1051) till 1 June 1999 in the

Economy and Society, The Social History of Economic Development,
Making of Modern Ukraine, Problems of Russian Nation-Formation in
the 19th and 20th Century, International Policy, International
Security, Foreign Policy Analysis, International Political Economy,
International/Diplomatic History, Comparative European Politics,
The Schools and Scholastic Method in Medieval Europe, Statehood in
Medieval East-Central Europe, Latin Humanist Literature in Central
Europe, Slavs and Byzantine Empire, Writing Women's Literary History
in Central and European Europe, Environmental Economics

2-Credit Courses:

Culture and Nationalism, Political Anthropology, Sociology of the
Media, Economic Structures and Politics, Political Sociology of
Accession to the EU, Eastern Marches or Western Borderlands, Problems
of Nationalism and Minorities in the former Soviet Union, Comparative
Competition Law, International and Comparative Civil Procedure, Early
Medieval Latin in Continental Europe, Medieval Latin in Central
Europe, Text and Image in Medieval Slavic and Byzantine Manuscripts,
Illuminated Medieval Gospels, Gender and Nationalism, Nuclear power
and nuclear activities by the military-Environmental consequences
