Today, 21 March, is the feast of ...

* Serapion, bishop of Thmuis (c. 370)
- nicknamed 'the Scholastic' on account of his learning, he
wrote against a range of heretics: Arians, Macedonians,
Manicheans

* Enda, abbot, and Fanchea, virgin (c. 530)
- a miracle-working brother-and-sister act; under Fanchea's
guidance, Enda entered a religious life, and ended up
becoming one of the fathers of Irish monasticism

* Benedict, abbot (c. 547)
- yes, this is *the* Benedict, born and raised in the
ancient Sabine town of Nursia (Norcia), along with his twin
sister, St Scholastica

* Santuccia, matron (1305)
- founded a community of Benedictine nuns, the Servants of
Mary, in her home town of Gubbio
